14 TED Talks to Take You Into 2021 (so you can leave 2020 behind!)

2020 was… a year. I have a lot of other words to describe 2020 but I’ll save you the time and just assume that you’d agree with each profanity.

If you’re like me, you’re putting a lot of pressure on 2021 to compensate for all the “gifts” that 2020 so generously gave us- the lost time, the lost experiences, the lost connections and the lost hope. 2021 can’t do it alone though- she’s a brand-spankin’-new vehicle waiting for you to put some fuel in the tank so she can leave 2020 in the dust.

Here are a few of our favorite TED Talks to help you generate some momentum so you can push the pedal to the metal when the clock strikes midnight.

Resolution: “I want to be more authentic” “I want to have more fulfilling relationships”

Afraid to be vulnerable? Finding yourself stuck in a shame storm? Is the idea of setting boundaries terrifying? Want to be more present? Want to be (GASP) yourself? The following videos are for you.

Resolution: “I want to work on my sleep schedule”

If 2020 shot your circadian rhythm between the eyes, a good night’s sleep is probably a distant memory. Want to get your sleep under control for the new year? Check out the following TED talks to learn about the power of sleep, how you can achieve a good night’s rest and why it’s so impactful on the state of your mental health.

Resolution: “I want to work on my mental health, but I’m not sure where to start”

Afraid to try therapy? Don’t know where to begin? Maybe your family doesn’t “believe in therapy” or dismisses its significance. Maybe you don’t even know how it works? If there are some barriers preventing you from connecting with a therapist, check out the TED talks below.

Additional TED Talk: Why We Should All Try Therapy

Resolution: “I want to figure out how to control my anxiety” “I want to stop being so scared to live my life”

Want to understand why you have anxiety and where it stems from? Want to stop anxiety from ruling your social calendar? From keeping you from trying new things, reaching your goals, being yourself? Want to stop second guessing everything? If this sounds like you, check out the videos below.

Resolution: “I don’t want my depression to run my life anymore”

If you didn’t experience some degree of depression in 2020, you are an outlier…Also, I don’t believe you. Ever feel “blah”? That’s a symptom of depression. It’s not always sadness. It’s not always crying. Sometimes it’s anger, and sometimes it’s so draining that the idea of changing the channel is too much so you end up watching a “my pillow” infomercial for 45 minutes before you even reach for the remote. It doesn’t have to be this way. Check out the TED talks below to discover how you can approach your depression, manage it, change your relationship with it, and possibly overcome it.

Resolution: “I want to understand why my past keeps affecting my present”

It’s always been this way and you don’t know why…or maybe you do, and don’t know what to do about it. It’s paralyzing and prevents you from moving forward. It’s affected your work, your relationships, the way you feel about yourself. Looking in the rear view mirror is scary and painful, but you have to understand where you’ve come from to know where you’re going. Check out the TED talks below to start your journey.

Alright, so you’re in the car, you’ve filled the tank and you’re ready to go. You can take your shirt sleeve and clear the condensation from the window and finally see the sun (figuratively speaking of course, c’mon, we’re in Michigan and it’s December…). If you need GPS or a co-pilot, Bright Spot therapists are happy to help guide you. Reach out today– you don’t have to take this trip alone.
